Name: Elizabeth
Canon: BioShock Infinite
Original or Alternate Universe: Original
Canon Point: Right before she boards the First Lady Aerodrome with Booker (the first time) and finds out he’s taking her to New York rather than Paris.
Number: Random is fine :)
Setting: http://bioshock.wikia.com/wiki/Elizabeth
History: Elizabeth grew up locked inside an enormous tower on Monument Island in the floating city of Columbia, put there by the order of Columbia’s Prophet, Zachary Comstock. She was never allowed to leave and only had contact with a giant robotic bird called Songbird. Songbird was her only friend and source of food throughout her life, and her only link to the outside world other than Tears. Ever since she was child, Elizabeth has had the ability to open tears in reality leading to other worlds. She could bring things through the Tears and even enter them herself. As this power grew stronger around the time she reached puberty, a Siphon was built underneath the tower to keep her power from becoming too strong. This Siphon disabled her from keeping the Tears open for very long and also from creating new ones. She could then only open Tears to places that already existed.
After nineteen years in the tower, she was finally released by Booker DeWitt, who was hired to find her and bring her to New York. She emerges grateful for the freedom and full of wonder at the world outside her tower. She agrees to go with Booker after he deceitfully tells her he’s taking her to Paris, and they head off to board the First Lady Aerodrome.
On the way, they encounter Comstock’s agents, who attempt to recapture Elizabeth and take her back to the tower. Booker, determined not to let them take her, kills the men. Elizabeth is horrified and calls Booker a monster, nearly changing her mind about going with him. She agrees to continue on with him only after he explains that she is an ‘investment’ and that killing people like them is the only way they’ll survive.
Continuing on to the docking bay, they find that they need a vigor called ‘Shock Jockey’ and head to the Hall of Heroes to get it. When they get there, they meet Booker’s old war buddy, Cornelius Slate. Slate forces Booker to slaughter dozens of men before asking DeWitt to kill him as well. They get the Shock Jockey from Slate and head back to the First Lady. (And that’s the point from which I so gently plucked her and dragged her into space)
Personality: Elizabeth is a very energetic and excitable girl. As soon as she gets out of her tower, she starts to get distracted by nearly everything she sees, continuously running off to go look at something while Booker tries desperately to keep track of her. Having never been outside before, almost everything she comes into contact with is completely new to her, driving her to become overexcited and careless on multiple occasions.
She’s also a bit naïve after spending her entire life locked away from civilization. She doesn’t exercise caution when approached by strangers and tends to believe most things she’s told. She trusts Booker almost immediately, barely even questioning him about who sent him to find her and why. She also believes that he’s really taking her to Paris when she’s known him for less than an hour.
Although naïve, Elizabeth is incredibly intelligent. Locked in a tower with nothing else to do, she spent the majority of her time reading. Due to this, she’s mastered many skills and learned countless things that sometimes prove very useful to both her and Booker. For example, she eventually finds out that Booker is taking her to New York because of the longitude and latitude coordinates he types in to set the airship’s destination.
Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations: Abilities:
Opening/creating Tears - Elizabeth has the ability to open Tears to alternate realities, different time periods, and even completely different worlds. Each of these abilities are shown (or mentioned) in gameplay. She can also bring objects from other worlds through a Tear and into her own.
Lock Picking - Elizabeth can pick nearly any lock with the right equipment. She learned how to do this while in her tower, hoping to free herself from the cage she was confined to. The skill proved useful many times throughout her escape from Columbia.
Medical - Elizabeth is skilled in most medical aspects, saving Booker’s life multiple times while he’s escorting her out of the city. Every time he has a close brush with death and/or goes unconscious, she’s able to revive him and bring him back to reality.
Weaknesses:
Naivety/Ignorance - Elizabeth is naïve and inexperienced in the real world and it can often lead to trouble. She is far too trusting and tends to believe people without question. This causes her some trouble when she blindly goes with Booker only to realize that he was trying to take her to New York to turn her over to those who hired him, rather than taking her to Paris as he promised.
Distraction - Elizabeth is also very easily distracted, often getting separated from Booker or getting left behind when she sees something interesting and breaks off from him without warning. This can be a bad thing because she forgets about the task at hand and it’s usually difficult for Booker to find her when she runs off.
Power Limitations:
Tears - She would still be able to open Tears and look through them but not actually go into them. She would still be able to bring things (small things) through the Tears. It would basically be to the same effect as the Siphon, which drained a good portion of her powers and prevented her from creating new Tears.
Inventory: Salts, Bird/Cage Key, First Aid Kit (she doesn’t really have much stuff heehee)
Appearance: dark brown hair in a loose ponytail, blue eyes. Pinky finger severed on her right hand. Here’s a picture!
Age: 20
AU Clarification: None
S A M P L E S
Log Sample: She was sure the wet streets of Paris would look infinitely more beautiful if she didn’t have to look at them through a Tear. The city lights were probably so much brighter in person. Sighing, she let the Tear fall closed and lied back on her bed. She would never get out of this tower but the least she could do was dream about it. Maybe she should try another of the lock picking books, or attempt to teach herself a little more French. If she was ever going to get to Paris she would need to know how to speak the language.
Rising from the bed, she headed into the massive library, scanning the shelves until she came to the language books. Elizabeth had organized them this way herself, with nothing else to do while she was stuck in the tower. She plucked a French book from the shelf, a more advanced one than the last one she’d been studying, and plopped herself down in a chair. Pulling her legs up beside her to make herself more comfortable, she opened the book and began to read.
Maybe becoming negative like that wasn’t the answer. If she didn’t keep believing that someday she would get out of here, there was no way she ever would. All she had to do was keep trying, and eventually she would get the door open and then there would be nothing that could come between her and the beautiful city of Paris.
Comms Sample: [Video] (really random scenario I don’t know)
[At first there is only static, but after a few seconds the screen becomes clear and Elizabeth’s face is visible on the screen. She smiles and gives a small wave before speaking.]
Good morning.
[She pushes a strand of hair behind her ear.]
I found this necklace in the hallway.
[She holds up a glimmering piece of jewelry in front of the camera.]
I wasn’t sure who it belonged to, so... If it’s yours, just give me a call.
[She gives another smile before ending the feed.]
